The Holy Spirit of God is a gift that is given to all who trust in Jesus Christ. Apart from the power of the Holy Spirit dwelling in the life of every believer, it is impossible to live a life of obedience to God.
Only when we surrender to the control of the Holy Spirit will we experience freedom from the control of sin and the flesh. Paul explains our need for the Holy Spirit in the first half of Romans 8.
In the heat of spiritual warfare, it is vitally important to remember that you are not alone.
The Spirit of God is given to us to ensure our liberty and victory from sin. There are some who teach that if you struggle with temptation and sin, there is something wrong with you. They are wrong. In fact, it is often the most faithful and obedient Christians who face the greatest spiritual battles. Just as in a physical war, those who are on the frontlines of the spiritual war encounter the enemy's fiercest attacks.
In the heat of spiritual warfare, it is vitally important to remember that you are not alone. You will become overwhelmed and be defeated if you rely on your own strength. Instead, remember who dwells within you. Stop and say, "Spirit of God, I surrender to you." He will respond, and He will help you to rise above fear and flee the temptation.
Prayer: God, thank You for giving me the Holy Spirit when I placed my trust in You. When I am struggling with spiritual warfare, please help me to remember that Your Spirit dwells within me and to surrender all to You. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
"No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it" (1 Corinthians 10:13).
