The Difficult Journey from Islam to Christ

From the desk of Dr. Michael Youssef

When Nada* was first introduced to the Gospel, she didn’t want to hear it. Her family was Muslim. She had been born a Muslim. She would always be a Muslim - or so she thought.

However, for the past year, Nada’s husband Khalid* had been in contact with Ash - one of more than a dozen dedicated follow-up coordinators around the world who respond to viewers of Leading The Way’s satellite television channel, THE KINGDOM SAT. After watching the channel, Khalid reached out to us and was connected to Ash.

The more Khalid spoke with Ash, the more God softened his heart to the Gospel. Over time, he began to see the holes in Islam and longed for a relationship with Christ. He also longed for his wife to know Jesus.

Once Khalid accepted Jesus as his Savior, Nada refused to discuss it with him - so he encouraged her to speak with Ash. Seeking answers for herself, she called - and as Ash answered her questions and prayed with her, her heart began to change.

Today, both Nada and Khalid are believers. But it’s not easy taking these steps of faith. After learning of their conversion, Nada’s father took their young daughter and forced them away from the family’s home.

Like most members of our follow-up teams, Ash knows these dangers all too well. Growing up in the Middle East, he spent countless hours studying the Qur’an in preparation to become a leader in the mosque. In his teenage years, Ash came to Christ after hearing the Gospel on the radio. When his family found out, he was beaten and had to flee his home.

The Holy Spirit is on the move in the Muslim world, drawing people to Christ - but the process of coming to Christ takes time, and the transition from Islam can be incredibly difficult. In places where Muslims or new converts cannot simply walk into a church, find a Bible study, or talk freely about the Gospel, Leading The Way is their only lifeline to discipleship.

That’s why these teams are so important, and why I want to ask you to partner with us today. On-the-ground follow-up is a crucial part of stewarding the Gospel message Leading The Way proclaims every day over the airwaves. Your gifts help us to not only cast the seed of God’s Truth through our broadcasts - they also allow our follow-up teams to come in and do the sowing.

As we walk alongside of new believers like Nada and Khalid through conversion, discipleship, and persecution - will you join us?

In Christ,

May Notes from Our Inbox

Each month Leading The Way receives correspondence from all over the world. Through emails, letters, SMS, and phone calls, viewers and listeners express share how God has touched them through our programming. We hope that this month’s notes from our inbox will be an encouragement to you and an answer to your prayers for Leading The Way.

India:

“I regularly listen to Leading The Way, and Dr. Youssef recently spoke about fear. I live with my two children and my husband is no more, so I constantly worry about my children and that just compounds our problems. This message was like medicine to my fear-driven soul and helped me to correct myself and to overcome fear.”

Sudan:

“I started listening to your program because it’s in English translated into Arabic, and I am trying to learn English—but the program started giving me more meaning to life. I’m a Muslim but I’m attracted to know more about Christianity and I’m so admiring this faith!”

India:

“After I started listening to Leading The Way, I completely surrendered my life to Christ and am preparing myself to work full time for Him by spreading the Gospel to others who are lost. I praise God for the salvation that He has granted me so freely.”

Indonesia:

“When I went blind, the radio lightened my heart and built my faith from the evening until dawn. I keep listening to the station because my faith is getting stronger every time I listen to it. My favorite program is Leading The Way.”

Vietnam:

“By listening to your program, my faith has become stable. I wonder what would have happened to my life if I did not have the Word of God. In the past I was deceived and lost money in business. I was bitter toward my betrayers and considered suicide. However, God saved me—praise the Lord. I listened to your program and God changed my mind. I believe God and entrust my life to Him with a conviction that He will resolve my problem. Please keep me in your prayers.”

Iraq:

“I’m from a Shia Islamic background. I knew Christ through your radio station. I used to hear its program regularly and felt that God was calling me and telling me to follow Him. I accepted Christ as my Savior five years ago and started reading the Bible—a precious gift from a friend in Lebanon. My family noticed the difference in my life and started to follow me and search through my stuff. They found the Bible and tore it. I’ve been verbally persecuted and deprived of food and clothes. I live in a very Islamic area that has no churches and I’m only surrounded by Muslims. Thank you for all your prayers. Thank you for sending me books that encourage me to grow and mature in faith.”

Saudi Convert Featured on THE KINGDOM SAT

Last month, Leading The Way’s 24/7 satellite television channel, THE KINGDOM SAT, launched a new program called “Behind the Dunes” featuring teachings from a Saudi Arabian convert. This is a significant milestone, as Brother Al Fadi is the first Christian with a Muslim background who will be a featured Bible teacher on THE KINGDOM SAT.

Dressed in traditional Saudi clothing, Brother Al Fadi—formerly a Wahhabi Muslim, the most extreme branch of Sunni Islam—uses his experiences as a platform to share the Gospel, contrasting the teachings of the Qur’an with the teachings of the Bible.

“When I came [to Christ], I brought all of my Islamic thinking,” he says in the first episode of the program. “I wanted to know how to please Christ through prayers and fasting, living the way I am supposed to in terms of worship, rituals, and traditions. But I found out eventually that Christ gave me freedom. These shackles were broken. All that is required of me is to be His servant alone.”

The juxtaposition of a man in traditional Saudi dress, preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and sharing about his experiences as a former Muslim is a powerful image that we pray will resonate with Muslim audiences.

Broadcasting content from a Saudi convert is a step of faith for Leading The Way in reaching Muslims for Christ—but it is not without risks, as conversion from Islam to Christianity is forbidden in Saudi Arabia. Here are three ways you can pray for THE KINGDOM SAT and the new “Behind the Dunes” program:

  • Pray for God to use this program as an effective ministry tool for our Muslim viewers. Pray for many to find Christ through this program.
  • Pray for God to use this program to provide Biblical guidance for new converts who need Biblical guidance as they walk out their faith in Muslim countries.
  • Pray for God’s shield of protection to cover THE KINGDOM SAT programs, viewers, and follow-up teams.

Have you ever wondered what a KINGDOM SAT broadcast is like? You can watch the live stream of Leading The Way’s satellite television channel here.

THE KINGDOM SAT is Leading The Way's 24/7 satellite television channel reaching five continents across nine satellite platforms. Learn more about THE KINGDOM SAT here.

Your Battle Plan for Spiritual Victory

From the desk of Dr. Michael Youssef

Years ago, I wrote a book called Know Your Real Enemy. Revised and updated for today’s battlefield, it has been republished as Conquer: Your Battle Plan for Spiritual Victory. I want to reiterate its message because I believe it is so pertinent for our times as more and more churches are departing from Biblical authority, leaving the door open to all kinds of false gods and gospels.

If we could peer into Satan’s playbook, I believe we’d find that our enemy has a battle plan targeting each of us by name. I believe the best way we can defend ourselves and live in victory is to fill our minds and our homes with God’s Truth.

We recently heard from a Christian father in Canada who had struggled with alcoholism. After years of sobriety, he was invited to a party at a bar. He convinced himself he could have “just one beer” without losing his sobriety. As he drove to the bar, he listened to our Leading The Way broadcast and heard about the moral compromise of Lot in the book of Genesis. The Truth of God’s Word stopped this man and turned him back home to his family.

“I was experiencing a lot of joy when I drove home,” he told us. “It was a victory—a victory over sin, relying on Christ. That message was pointed exactly where I needed it to be. It couldn’t have been any more perfect.”

Experiencing spiritual victory is simply a matter of understanding and applying the Word of God. This is why Leading The Way continues to proclaim Christ 4,300 times a week to more than 190 countries. Through these efforts, a Christian father was reminded of the danger of spiritual compromise—all in God’s perfect timing.

This month, I would like to offer you a copy of my new book, Conquer, for your gift of any amount to the ministry of Leading The Way. Your support allows Leading The Way to proclaim God’s Truth at critical moments in the lives of listeners, readers, and viewers all over the world. Through your giving, you will not only receive teaching to equip you in your spiritual walk—you will also help us equip millions of listeners and viewers around the world with Biblical Truth.

I hope you’ll partner with us!

In Christ,
