Read Exodus 12:1-7.
When God answered the cries of His people in Egypt, He didn't act in order to make their lives in slavery more comfortable. He didn't confront Pharaoh and the gods of Egypt merely to loosen some of the restrictions they were under. Instead, the Lord acted decisively to bring the Israelites out of slavery and into complete freedom.
Jesus died to offer us true freedom from the slavery of sin.
The same is true of the battle that Jesus won on the cross for you and me. He didn't die to bring us temporary pleasure or to make this life more comfortable. He died to offer us true freedom from the slavery of sin. In Christ, we are free to say "no" to sin. We are free to live in hope, and we are free to have supernatural peace—regardless of our circumstances. In short, we are free to live victoriously through the power of the blood of Jesus Christ.
But just as the Israelites had to take hold of their freedom through obedience, so must we. Each family had to slaughter a lamb and paint its blood on the doorframe of their house. Just hearing Moses' instruction would not have saved them; only obedience to that instruction would do. The Bible makes it very clear: Attending church cannot save you; being an active part of a denomination cannot save you; giving intellectual assent to Christian doctrine will not save you. It is only when we place ourselves under the blood of Jesus Christ that we can be saved.
Prayer: Father, thank You for the complete freedom I have in You because of Christ's finished work on the cross. May I follow Your will that brings the deepest satisfaction. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
"Then they are to take some of the blood and put it on the sides and tops of the doorframes of the houses where they eat the lambs" (Exodus 12:7).
