In Matthew 25, Jesus described three characteristics that we should develop as we wait for His return.

Preparedness (25:1-13) — A bride will spend months preparing for her wedding—and there is not a detail that is overlooked. Shouldn't the church be preparing with far greater joy and intensity, knowing that our Bridegroom will return for the marriage supper of the Lamb?

When Christ returns, will He find us prepared, invested, and full of compassion?

Investment (25:14-30) — While we wait, God has entrusted us with responsibilities for the advancement of His Kingdom. We each have a certain measure of time, talents, and treasure with which to invest. Jesus expects our faithfulness with these gifts—and a return on His investment in us.

Compassion (25:31-46) — The Bible teaches that "faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead" (James 2:17). Our service to others is a direct reflection of the condition of our heart. Thankfully, God gives us the desire and the power to serve, and by responding to His call, we can know that we are ministering to Jesus Himself.

When Christ returns, will He find us prepared, invested, and full of compassion?

Prayer: God, help me to be prepared for Your coming, to invest my gifts in Your Kingdom, and to serve others with a heart of compassion. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.

"Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour" (Matthew 25:13).
