Read Revelation 19:6-9.

Whenever we come to the Lord's Table, we ought to look back on the cross and reflect on the price Jesus paid for us. At the same time, we ought to examine our hearts, consider the weight of our sin, and thank God for the precious blood of His Son. But we also ought to look ahead. You see, Jesus died on the cross not only to pay our debts but also to bring us into the joys of heaven. One day, we will gather with all the saints who have ever lived, and we'll take our seat at the wedding supper of the Lamb. That is why, on that night in the upper room with His disciples, Jesus said, "I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God" (Luke 22:16).

Jesus died on the cross not only to pay our debts but also to bring us into the joys of heaven.

"The Last Supper" really could be called "The Last Supper for Now," for there is another meal coming, a party that will put all other parties to shame. It will be a celebration without comparison, a gift to us paid for by Jesus Christ at Calvary—and it will mark the beginning of unending joy. Today, though, let the thought of the coming banquet be a reminder of God's infinite goodness. His kindness to sinners is beyond measure. His mercy is deeper and wider than all our sins.

Friend, God really does love you, so much that Jesus died to provide you with a seat at His table.

Prayer: Jesus, how I look forward to the wedding supper of the Lamb! Thank You for securing for me a seat at that glorious table. May I set my heart there with You in heaven, that I might live more fully for You today in grateful anticipation of that great day when you will make all things new. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.

"Then the angel said to me, 'Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!' And he added, 'These are the true words of God'" (Revelation 19:9).
